Mother's Day 2015

Seeing theses pictures fills my heart with such joy!
My mom was totally right!
We don't know how much they love us until we have our own!

Mother's Day was low key this year. Bobby had to work, Boo! I spent the day with the kids, my mom and brother! We went to Church, Castle Park (a local min theme park), ordered Olive garden to go and watched a movie!
The Gang!
The rides!
Jeremy was such a daring little boy!
He rode that rollercoaster in the back car by himself!
Capri went on the log ride like nobody's business!
They also took a ride n the cars without a grownup!
They are growing up so fast!
I feel like this wouldn't be complete without a shout out to my amazing husband! He works so hard so I can fulfill my dream job of being a stay at home mommy. God blessed us with that job, knowing this would be here I am today! I love it. Sure, there are hard days, most days are hard and I fall into bed exhausted each night, but it's completely worth it.

Our visit to CHOC: Part 2

Haha! Her hair after a sponge bath!
April 25, 2015
Heidi has been a little more awake today. Thanks to the Hotel de Chisholm I got a full night sleep! But Heidi refused to take a bottle from daddy all night! They tried to put her O2 down to 6 liters and 25% but she's struggling. So, they bumped it back up to 8 liters and 50%. "The hardest part of this was seeing her so weak. They drew blood and she didn't even move." -Daddy
She's becoming more aware and getting frustrated with the tubes and restricted movement. And she's becoming a little more vocal! Good signs!
We had Baby Einstein playing on the iPad.
That evening she learned what a Doggy and Bear say!
Cutest little growl!
Church this morning. With the online staff praying for us! Thank you Sandals church for this option!

Heidi was so much fun last night! Talking, playing, kissing me! She said a few words for the first time! It took alot it of her but it was such a sweet time for me!
Right now she at 6 liters and 40% oxygen. They tried to move her down through out the night, but she couldn't support it. To move to a regular Pediatric unit her oxygen support needs to be at 6 liters and 30%.
The look in her eyes tells you she's done being in a bed!

April 27, 2015
FB Post at 4:20pm:
Her oxygen levels are slowly getting lower. Prayerfully we will be on the regular Peds floor today, and heading home soon. We had a chest X-ray this morning to see how much fluid is still in her lungs. Prayer requests:
1. It's taking a lot to get her to sleep. She's restless because she can't move around. Pray for a way for her to use up some energy to sleep better.
2. Pray for me. I'm not sleeping well, at the hospital. Heidi will not take milk from a bottle or cup, so I have to be here, I miss Bobby, Jeremy, and Capri!
Thank you for your precious prayers! We can fell each one of them!
UPDATE: They moved us at 3am! We are on a lower level ICU floor. As long as she continues to improve on there Oxygen level, we can move to the regular Peds floors and eventually home!

FB post at 6:38pm:
Praising Jesus!
My last post was 2 hours ago!
Since then. . . Heidi-Rae was moved to a Nasal cannula at 1.5 liters, moved to the regular peds floor, able to walk around the room with a fun standing toy, and eaten a full meal, along with nursing!
Thank you prayer warriors!

As I write this to look back on, I am UH-MAZ-ED at the outpouring of love, both from people in our lives and GOD!! He heard us and responded in 2 hours! Look at the difference in her face from the top right picture to the bottom right!!

April 28, 2015
Having breakfast with my girl! No tubes or wires getting in our way! She has been off oxygen since 8 p.m. last night! They will check her one last time around 4pm and start discharge papers! I also convinced them to take her IV out so we could have a really bath!
God is good my friends! He has been with us these past few days! Thanks to everyone who had prayed and offered to help!

What a complete turnaround from 24 hours before!

Anxiously waiting to be discharged, roaming the halls, putting smiles on people's faces!

oh you know, just me and my girl enjoying some sunshine, on our way home!!

Time and Time again we are LIVING proof that God exists!
He has brought us through many health trials!
Thank you to each one of you that prayed for us during these times!

Our visit to CHOC: Part 1

Please pray with us.
Heidi was admitted to the PICU for pneumonia at CHOC.

We are on day 5 in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Children's Hospital Orange County (CHOC). I wanted to write this out a few days ago, but it's been a bit crazy around here. I think the facts and emotions are still raw enough to get the whole picture.
My heart was breaking watching them so sick

So, Capri (3 in May) was sick last week. It lasted about 5 days and she was better. Just as she was getting better, Heidi came down with it. Fever, spiking to 104, cough, clear slightly runny nose, wheezing, no appetite. By Tuesday (day 3) she wasn't showing signs of improvement. I took her to our family doctor Wednesday morning. By this point she hadn't eaten or nursed since Sunday and her fever was getting to 104.3, but coming down with alternating Tylenol and Motrin, and giving baths or washcloths cool downs. The doctor said her lungs sounded ok and no signs of ear or throat infection. Try giving Pedylite for hydration. Watch fort the next 24 hours and let him know how she is.

Wednesday night my mom came to stay and give me a little break. At 3am, she brought Heidi to me to nurse. Her breathing was really bad. I laid with her for about an hour and half, I was getting overwhelmed by her breathing and fever. I took her back to my mom to wake Bobby up and talk to him about what we should do. I told him something didn't feel right. I thought she needed to be taken in. My mom came back in a few minutes later saying the same thing.  When we got in the car, she was gagging and dry heaving. It took a few attempts to get her calmed down enough to get into her car seat. I really wanted to go to Loma Linda but I wasn't sure she could make it. We decided to take her to Parkview ER. They saw us within 10 minutes, did a chest X-ray, got her starred on an IV. The X-Ray showed pneumonia.  She needed to be transferred.  They tried to get us into LLUMC but their PICU was full so they sent us by ambulance to CHOC.
I really pushed for LL but no luck!
Tugs at he heart strings!

I should add that this was also Jeremy's 5th birthday! We had all kinds of things planned: treats for his school, his birthday Act of Kindness, and he was riding in a Trike-A-Thon fundraiser for his school. (Blogs on each of those to come in a few weeks) Bobby was supposed to be working, so we decided he would stay at the hospital with Heidi and I would go to spend the morning with Jeremy and meet up with Heidi in the afternoon. This was such a hard decision! I was really torn. I had to choose between kids! Thankfully, after the TAT my mom was able to stay with Jeremy and Capri while Bobby and I figured out what Heidi needed.
He Totally Rocked it!
Follow this link to see details!

I arrived to CHOC at about 1 pm. They ended up putting Heidi on the regular Peds floor, instead of the ICU. She was severely dehydrated and really out of it. I tried to breast feed her. She did take one side but really wasn't interested. My mommy heart was breaking for her. She was so weak.  We found out a few minutes later, the doctors didn't want her to eat because they were really worried about her aspirating. I remembered this from her NICU stay with pneumonia. Oppps. . . .

The "cloudiness" at the bottom of her lungs is the pneumonia.
I love that you can see her little teeth ready to come in!

They had her on a high flow nasal caneula, blowing 15 liters ( the max) at 80% oxygen. The fluid in her lungs, the pneumonia, had made he lungs sticky. Making it hard for her to inflate then on inhale and get enough oxygen to breath. By giving her SO much oxygen, it was forcing the lungs to stay open while the oxygen went in.  She was not able to sustain her breathing when they lowered the oxygen, about 6pm they decide to move us to the PICU. Heidi was maxed out on oxygen and flow. The felt she needed to be watched closely though out the night. They were preparing to put her on a CPAP or, possibly intabate her. Those are scary words for a mommy! I was really worried about my milk supply. I was worried about the length of time she would need these breathing options, would her jaw fuse and she wouldn't be able to breast feed? What damage would intabating do to her long term? My mind was swirling with "what ifs" and the unknown. I needed to take time to give it to God and not worry but things were moving too quickly to take a breath! I called on all our prayer warriors to help me through! The plus side of being moved to the PICU? We had our own spacious room, a bed-type-couch thing to sleep on, it was right next to the bathroom and a play/ family room.
Thankfully, God was listening to us all! Although, she was requiring a lot of oxygen help, that was all she needed. They slowly, very slowly weaned her off.
That's her nasal canula and Daddy snuggles

My mom brought the kids out to visit us on Friday evening. The hospital is completely interactive! They have quite a few fun things to do. My mom snuggled Heidi while bobby and I played games with Jeremy and Capri and had dinner. They said the kids cow;don't visit because they were worried about getting Heidi sicker or getting the kids sick again. They were so heart broken. I headed to Auntie Donna's to get a good night sleep while bobby stayed with Heidi.
Talk with Crush!

Piggy back and shoulder ride
Bobby had a good night with her but she refused to take a bottle. So, by 8am, she was hungry! Which was a GREAT sign! We found out that day, it's a matter of opinion if the kids could visit her. We decided they had already been exposed the week before. Heidi seeing them so so great!
Heidi waking up to a visit from her brother and sister! SO sweet!
Capri playing Doctor
Snuggles with Gigi

This hospital stay was much more stressful then the NICU stays. I HAD to leave the NICU as I couldn't stay the night or sleep there. The babies slept most of the time and didn't know when I left it was a bad thing. Here, when Heidi wakes up she KNOWS I'm not there and gets scared not knowing the nurses and doctors. Since she is contagious she is in isolation, os the doctors and nurses have to wear gowns, gloves, and masks. Each time they come in she gets scared and ask for milk! Nursing is her safe haven. I love it! BUT she will no longer take a bottle! 3 days ago she did while we are on a date but now she won't. She knows! I feel bad going to the bathroom or getting food or just getting outside for fresh air! I only go when she is napping but what if she wakes up, alone, with no body here to hold and comfort her!
More updates to come tomorrow!

We got out for some lunch
Her whole set up

The Silver Lining

I post this because I know there is a mom out there going through her day in utter exhaustion from her night before. Cups of coffee right after another to make it to nap time. You are not alone!!

Here is the monologue of my night. . . unedited, raw, emotion. . . Capri has been sick for 3 days, up quite a few times a night. This was night 3. . .

Heidi-Rae Update: 12 Months

Oh my goodness! Somebody catch me before I faint! 1 YEAR!!!! Just kidding, I'm not going to faint! That was quite dramatic. But, holy cow! This year was WAY. TO. FAST.
It goes by faster with each one. . .

Weight

From what I can tell, Little Miss has not gained weight since her last check up. We don't have a scale, so that is based on me holding her! Who knows how accurate that is! She has an appointed at the end of the month. . . we'll see what he says. He was a bit concerned at the 9 month appointment because she hadn't gained weight since 6 months. I'm not that concerned. She's just a tiny one!

Health

Lawd Hammercy on us in the sickness department for the next few months! Please?? This month we had a bad cold of some sort followed the next week by a stomach bug! I'm trying to keep patient but, to be honest, it's wearing thin! At this moment in life, we are all healthy!!  I would love for it to stay this way!

Sleep

During the sickness we were getting up several times a night to nurse because she was so uncomfortable. Since that has passed, Heidi is sleeping from 8pm - 5am! This has really helped my patience!! Praise Jesus!! She naps in the morning from 10am-11am and then from 1:30pm-3:30pm. We just love this timing!

Clothes

I think we have pretty munch put away all the 6 month stuff. I am ready to put the 9 month time away and get 12 month just for variety! #firstworldproblems I know! That sounds terrible! Buuuut I know there are some CUTE 12 month clothes up there just waiting for us! She kinda swims in this size but that's ok, right?? Bobby thinks I'm crazy. . . You all might also. . . That's ok! :)

Social

Let's see this month. . . We had a fun visit from my Aunt Juli from Vermont, Daddy had the kids for an entire day while I went wedding dress shopping with my lovely cousin, we celebrated Kailyn's 1st birthday, and we went to a butterfly day at a nature center!
Whew! Although, all these events were SO fun. . . it's tiring to always be "on the go." The next few months my goal is to embrace the title "Stay at home Mom." I want to stay home much more and embrace watching my kids interact and love on each other. There is so much I can learn from them by watching them learn. I love that part of being a Mommy.

Brotherly/Sisterly Love

We'll start with Jeremy. . . He adores Heidi! He is there to help in any way needed, always asking what he can do for her, he loves to "help" her around. He has the funniest jokes that make her get a deep belly giggle! She just loves him!

Capri LOVES Heidi. . . sometimes a little too much! WE have to really watch how rough she is. WE talk with her often about being gentle and she says, "But I just love her so much and she is just so cute, I have to squeeze her." Yikes!! It's really sweet to watch them play with babies or their tea set together! Of course, Hedid is just tossing things around and chewing but Capri thinks she is a great participant! She carries on a conversation with her just as if the yard really having tea together! I love to think about what kind of sisterly relationship is in the works!

Diet

We finally got over our gagging problem. We still only give her small pieces on there tray but she loves to feed herself. She really loves fruit squeezes, tomatoes and eggs!  She is still nursing just about every 3 hours. At night before bed I pump 5 ounces. . . I assume that 's what she is eating during the day. The day I was gone, she only took two 6 ounce bottles and no food. But she nursed like crazy when I got home. I love her passion for breastfeeding, it matches mine! Ha!!

Milestones

Little bit is preferring walking over crawling these days. She says "Hi", "Mama" and "Dada." She signs milk (quite passionately) and please. We are to the point where she isn't putting everything in her mouth, somethings but not EVERYthing! Which allows her to be a little more independant. She loves to climb in and out of the car we have outside. She give wet, open mouth kisses, they melt my heart!

Personality

My little mama's girl still loves and prefers her mama over everyone. I adore this quality! She is a climber! I have to watch what we leave out, if she can get a foothold, she's going up! Heidi is a little aggressive when she doesn't get what she wants, like, oh, I don't know, the battery she is chewing on! I tell ya, the things she finds to chew on!! When I take it away she gets MAD! I have to stop her from hitting my often! She has found that she can change the pitch of her voice! She loves to sing! "Let it Go" is her favorite, by default thanks to big sister! And dance! I love to see her little body shaking to the beat.

Well, these posts will come to an end next month. We'll keep the monthly updates but they will be much more brief and more personality driven. Their personality really starts to enhance in the next few months! I can't wait to see what Heidi has in store for us!!
Happy Birthday my sweet girl!!
